Jon Williams of Miami ran away from the field to win the annual Halpatiokee 5K Run on Saturday morning at Halpatiokee Regional Park in Stuart.

Williams, 40, covered the 3.1-mile loop course in 17 minutes, 45 seconds. Palm City’s Dale Ruby, 47, finished second in 19:08 and won the Masters (age 40 and over) title for his efforts. Tim Bakels of Port St. Lucie was third in 19:22.

In the women’s race, Stuart’s Rachel Dumas, 15, outkicked Palm City’s Wanda Timmons at the finish line to win the overall title in 23:04. Timmons, 39, finished in 23:05. Desiree Gutierrez of Port St. Lucie was third in 23:33. Kathy Wentworth, 47, of Okeechobee won the Masters title in 23:59.

A total of 144 runners completed the event, which was organized by the Martin County Parks and Recreation Department and hosted by the Sailfish Striders Running Club of Stuart.
