FT PIERCE – Saturday, runners were greeted with ideal weather conditions to kickoff the new year. Matt Hensley of Port St Lucie won the 26th Annual Bridge Buster 5K held in Ft Pierce as he covered the 3.1-mile course in 16:04. His brother Jeff Hensley placed second in a time of 17:01 and Lucus Simari of Ft Pierce finished third, nine seconds behind Jeff, in a time if 17:10. Miami’s Jon Williams took home the top Masters (age 40 and over) spot in a time of 18:06. In the women’s race, Jamie Spooner of Port St Lucie won the women’s title in 19:47. with Randi Roker also from Palm City placed second with a time of 21:42 and Brandi Walker of Port St Lucie was third in 21:59. Jensen Beach’s Cynthia Washam won Women’s Masters (age 40 and over) title in 22:04. A total of 179 runners and walkers completed the event, which was organized by the Fort Pierce Downtown Kiwanis Club and hosted by the Sailfish Striders Running Club of Stuart. All proceeds from the race went to benefit the children’s programs conducted by the Kiwanis Club.
