Reback, Spooner take top spots in Beach to Beach 5k Run

JENSEN BEACH — John Reback of Jupiter led from start to finish to win the 10th annual Beach To Beach 5K Run held Friday evening at the Jensen Beach public beach parking area. Reback covered the 3.1-mile point-to-point course in 17 minutes, 4 seconds. Jon Williams of Miami was second in 17:24, and South Fork High School cross country standout Tyler Brennault finished third in 17:39. Williams, 40, won the Masters (age 40 and over) title for his efforts.

In the women’s race, Jamie Spooner of Port St. Lucie defended her overall title with a time of 19:43. Kelly Hensley of Port St. Lucie finished second in 20:44, and Chantelle Brodie of Palm City was third in 21:04.

Cynthia Washam, 51, of Jensen Beach won the masters title in 22:14.

A record crowd of 376 runners completed the event, topping the 317 finishers recorded in 2007. The race was the final event in the three-race Summer Sizzler Race Series organized by the Martin County Parks and Recreation Department and hosted by the Sailfish Striders Running Club.
