JENSEN
BEACH - James Cook topped a
near-record field as he won the seventh annual Beach To Beach 5K, covering
the point-to-point 3.1-mile course in 16 minutes, 13 seconds. Miami’s Jon
Williams finished second in 17:29 and Craig Sinbine of Fort Pierce was third
in 17:51. Rex Noble, 45, of Palm City won the Masters (age 40 and over)
title in 18:19.
In the women’s race, Emily Houston of Jensen Beach took the
Overall title in 18:19, Palm City’s Michelle Weiler finished second in
19:27, and Jamie Spooner of Port St. Lucie was third in 19:44. Brenda
Wilson, 49, of Stuart won the Masters title in 20:13.
The race was the third and final race in the Summer Sizzler Race
Series organized by the Martin County Parks and Recreation Department and
hosted by the Sailfish Striders Running Club. A total of 232 runners
completed the event, which was two people fewer than last year’s record
turnout. The course began at the Stuart Beach parking lot and proceeded
north on Highway A-1-A to the Jensen Beach public beach parking lot.
