FORT PIERCE -- Jon
Williams of
Miami cruised to victory in the inaugural Extreme Energy
Education 5K Run held Saturday morning on the grounds of the
Treasure Coast Research Park as he covered the 3.1-mile
out-and-back course in 18 minutes, 53 seconds.
Williams' stepson Jeffrey Tait finished second in 18:57, and
Fort Pierce's Roger Travis, 51, was third in 19:33 and won
the Masters (age 40 and over) title for his efforts.
In the women's race, Tara
McFarlane of
Fort Pierce won the Overall title in 22:03, Fort Pierce's
Kathy Perona, 47, was second in 24:11 and won the Masters
title, and Lindsey Turnbull of Vero Beach finished third in
27:07.
A total of 35 runners completed the race, which was part of
the Extreme Energy Education festivities held all day to
showcase the Research Park and its activities.
