Run for Education 2005

STUART - Taylor Reeves outran the competition and Hurricane Wilma Saturday morning as he won the fifth annual Run For Education 5K Run held at the Community Christian Church. Reeves, 17, and a standout runner for South Fork High School, covered the 3.1-mile course in 17 minutes, 15 seconds, followed by teammate Michael Rosato of Stuart in 17:31 and Miami’s Jon Williams in 17:57. Roger Travis, 47, of Fort Pierce , won the Masters (age 40 and over) title by placing sixth overall in 18:52 .
In the women’s race, Reeves and Rosato’s cross country coach Rita Young of Jensen Beach showed her protégés that she’s just as tough as they are as she won the Overall title in 21:55 . Loxahatchee’s Toni Medvetz was second in 24:08, and Jessenia Mejia of Port St. Lucie finished third in 25:49. Medvetz, 42, won the Masters title for her efforts.
A total of 78 runners completed the event under cloudy skies and in warm humid conditions generated by the approach of Hurricane Wilma. All proceeds from the race went to benefit the athletic programs of the Community Christian School .
