STUART -  Jon Williams of Miami powered past Palm City’s Scott Steger in the final two hundred yards to win the sixth annual Halpatiokee 5K Run held Saturday morning at Halpatiokee Regional Park.  Williams, 38, covered the 3.1-mile loop course in 17 minutes, 45 seconds to capture his third consecutive Overall title.  Steger, 16, finished second in 17:54 and fellow Martin County High School cross country teammate Jeffrey Jerald of Palm City was third in 18:39.
            Dale Ruby, 45, of Palm City finished sixth overall to win the Masters (age 40 and over) title in 18:54.
            In the women’s race, Stuart’s Brenda Wilson defended her Overall title by winning this year’s race in 19:54, just two seconds slower than last year.  Kara Weber-Fleming of Palm Beach Gardens finished second in 20:31, and Loxahatchee’s Toni Medvetz, 44, was third in 22:47.  Medvetz won the Masters title for her efforts.
        A total of 126 runners completed the event, which was sponsored by the Martin County Parks and Recreation Department and hosted by the Sailfish Striders Running Club of Stuart.
