Running: Williams takes top spot in Manatee Center 5K

FORT PIERCE — Jon Williams of Miami won the men's overall award at the first Manatee Center 5K Run/Walk in 17 minutes: 59 seconds. Mark Swart of Stuart won second place and also the male masters award, finishing in 18:03. Third-place winner was Jeffrey Tait, 14, of Miami in 18:04.

Brandi Warner of Port St Lucie was the first women's overall finisher in 21:15. Second-place winner was Desiree Gutierrez of Port St Lucie in 23:00. Kathy Perona of Fort Pierce took third place overall and the women's masters award in 23:24.

One hundred-ten runners and walkers completed the loop through the streets of Fort Pierce, and an out-and-back section of the South Causeway, under mostly sunny skies. The race was organized by the Manatee Observation and Education Center, and hosted by the Sailfish Striders Running Club of Stuart.
