The Highland Oaks Middle School cross country team closed out its season on Nov. 2 in the Miami-Dade County Championships at Larry and Penny Thompson Park.

The varsity girls team finished fourth out of 11 teams, led by Ebony and Akeeba Rose, who finished third and fourth place, respectively, out of a field of 110. Ebony covered the two-mile course in 13:07 and Akeeba in 13:12.

Lauren Houghteling finished 29th with a time of 16:03. Samantha Zackheim set a personal best time of 23:13. The junior varsity boys were led by Jeffrey Tait, who took sixth place in the championships for the second year in a row.

Tait ran 12:56 and was followed by Romeo White, who finished 32nd with a time of 14:27, and Evan Gruda, who finished in 36th with a time of 14:31.

Other boys running personal bests were Daniel Angeles, Kirlos Haroun, Ramsey Jandali and Kyle Lampkin.
