Jason Bodnar won Saturday's Seven Mile Bridge Run. His wife,
cancer survivor Jennifer, was third among women.
Jason Bodnar of Candler, N.C., ran Saturday's 28th annual Seven
Mile Bridge Run in 34 minutes, six seconds to beat out the other
1,499 runners in one of the world's most picturesque road-racing
events.
But Bodnar, 39, was almost upstaged by his wife Jennifer, 37 --
she finished third among women runners with a time of 43:38. Quite a
feat for a cancer survivor.
Overall among the women runners, Marlene Persson, 39, of
Deerfield Beach won with a time of 40:54. In second was Nancy Frey,
48, of Boca Raton, at 41:51.
Following Bodnar among the men were Andrew Greenridge, 44, of
Coconut Creek with a time of 37:02 to take second and Jon Williams,
40, of Miami, who placed third at 37:08.
It was a great morning for the race, which started at 7:30 a.m.,
with cool temperatures, low humidity and a nice tailwind for the
runners.
Following the run, the bridge opened to auto traffic at 9 a.m.,
and the awards celebration and after-run party were under way at
Chappy's Restaurant, at the base of the Seven Mile Bridge on the
span's Marathon end.
