Woods, Begley take Town Center titles

Published February 13, 2005

Ryan Woods and Amy Yoder Begley won the overall men's and women's titles Saturday at the Town Center Classic 5K in Boca Raton.

Woods, 25, of Daytona Beach, outkicked Canadian Andrew Smith to win in 14 minutes, 40 seconds. Zepherinus Joseph, 29, who splits time between Jacksonville and Pompano Beach, was third in 14:45. Joseph was coming off his Feb. 6 Gasparilla Marathon win.

Begley, 27, a graduate of Arkansas where she was one of the nation's top college runners and two-time Olympic trials qualifier, won the women's race in 16:03. Smith's wife, Tara Quinn, was second in 16:20, edging defending women's champion Ketema Atalelech of Ethiopia.

Renzo Martinez of Boca Raton took the wheelchair title in 15:44. Phillip Walkins of Coconut Creek, and Laura Hruby of Boca Raton and Pittsburgh won the masters titles.
